People Rare Reply to the Programming Topics

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/People Rare Reply to the Programming Topics

I notice that things can hang out on the Blitz PLus programming forum for ages without a reply (at least my posts do, maybe no one likes me sob :-( ). I'm sure people used to reply more often like Wolron and Prof and plenty of others. Where have they all gone? Maybe this is a very real negative effect of not having an off topic forum or is it simply that no one uses Blitz Plus any more? Do the 3D and max forums get more traffic and replies? Whaddya think?

From what I've seen, there've always been more Blitz3D (and now, BlitzMax) coders here than BlitzPlus ones. However, since that describes me, maybe I'm biased. I've offered my help (for whatever that's worth :) ) in the forums a few times with 3D and Max, but never with Plus since I don't own it.

you confirm my suspicions (about less BP coders).

I've moved to Cipher.

I don't even know what that is. link?

I must confess, not owning B+ I don't visit the B+ forums. The B3D forums still seem pretty lively, though.

The Cipher Temple Demo and the Crazy Car Championship demo looked ok - but quite sluggish I thought - mind you the BlitzMax 3d module isn't even out yet so we can't compare the two.

As far as BlitzPlus goes I haven't used it in ages - too busy with BlitzMax Projects.

BlitzPlus never really took of because it's main selling point over Blitz3d was it could produce Windows Applications - but was underpowered for this task anyway and Pure BASIC was the better option.

When the GUI module for max comes out, one could expect ppl to 'return' to app-coding. The only slap in the face would be a GUI-module that also has as few gadgets as B+ had by default.

I try to assist B+ beginners where I can .. tho I've the impression that generally the blitz-audience is more biased towards game-programming than app-programming. So even in B+ ppl might ask about tilemaps etc.

Somehow I've the impression games and apps are really different programmingstyles, and blitz-people seem more comfortable with the gamestyle of programming than the appstyle .. tho I could be 100% wrong here. ^_^
(* with style I mean that solutions, functional designs and interface etc. for apps could be completely different in style than solutions for games)

While I own a copy of blitzplus I rarely use it and am not entirely comfortable with the gui commands so would not be of any real assistance in the blitzplus forums. I think it has been a long time since I last even looked at the blitzplus forums. Any 2D work (aside from gui) I do in blitz3d.

oh noes.. Noel has moved to Cipher.

Blitz PLus is great for games but for GUI, you might as well use Delphi, VB or Visuall C++ to be honest.

Wasn't the sole purpose of B+ to be a quick solution for making 2d-map-editors for games?

Not when it was originally released. BRL may have toned down the spiel (sp?) for B+ since then, but I distinctly remember reading something about 'on par with VisualBasic' ;]

VB may be pap in some ways, but BP on par? I don't think so! At least as far as GUI, but for 2D games, it's MUCH better.

Exactly. Hence a lot of whiny people. =] Well, a few whiny people. 3 or 4 anyway. How many bought B+? =]

well I did but I didn't buy it for the GUI stuff hence I don't whiine ;-)

Personal free time is becoming more and more limited all the time....

Also if you ask hard questions, it may take ages until somebody will reply.

yeah, mine are a little hard these days as I figured out most of the basics.
