Joypad recomendations?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Joypad recomendations?

I'm thinking of buying a joypad on may way home from work today. Anyone got any tips or recomenations on what brand/type to buy?

I've got a Saitek P880 if memory serves -- two analogue sticks and plenty of buttons. It seems pretty good to me...

I have a psx pad and a rockfire psx-usb converter. Works fine for single player or two player as long as one doesn't use rockfire.

I have a Saitek, too (P750), but with a single analog stick which you can lock to just vertical/horizontal movement if required. It does the job but console pads are far better quality IMO, so one of those converters sounds good. I rarely use a pad on my PC so I'm not too fussed. :)

Yeah, I use a PS1 dualshock with one of these. Works great and I prefer it to any PC specific pads I've tried.

Of course it helped that I had plenty of PS pads lying around and if you don't then it won't be quite so cost effective :-)

Ok. Thank you all for the tips! I'm gonna leave for home now and I'm gonna try to get to squeze on a Saitek on the way!

I like logitec ones. Saitec stuff always feels cheap and looks tacky to me.

uh... PS pads are good if possible, however I rarely use gamepad too, I use keyboard for most games, including action and shooting.

I agree with Evak. I got a Logitech Rumblepad II and it rocks. Saitek are a little too "Fisher Price" for my liking.

lol. I was just about to say my saitek does look a bit like a Fisher Price Play Centre. :)

It does the job, though, so I'm not too worried.

Yeah, don't buy crappy PC controllers. Just get a USB convertor for your favourite console joypads.

I'm using a PS2 Dualshock via a Joybox - don't know where you can buy the joybox at the moment but the PS2 pad is much better than any PC pad, perhaps you can use a USB converter as Enay mentions.

I managed to look at a Saitek P880 on my way home yesterday, but I didn't feel comfortable with it at all. I'll try to checkout some logitech stuff today.

As far as console controllers go, I'm a cube owner. I'm really comfortable with the cube controller and I know there are some converters avliable. Haven't spoken to anybody using it though...Has anyone here used a gamecube controller connected to the PC?

If I could use the Wavebird it would be really sweet...

You can get Cube controller adapters from Lik Sang -- should work fine. I used to have one, though I can't remember which console pad it was for. I imagine the Wavebird will be fine with these as the wireless stuff goes between the 'bird and its plugin unit anyway.

Ooh, there's one for the SNES pad too. Just need to get hold of the actual pad now and I'm ready for anything.

I use keyboard and joystick sometimes (remember those?) and gamepad on my CONSOLES, sigh.
