God I love CCS64!
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/God I love CCS64!
And that's it really! Been using it for about ooh 9 years now. The built in freeze allowed me to complete games that I played over and over as a kid like Ghosts and Goblins and Ikari warriors. I find Lemon64 to be a great site too. Of course I have the whole Sid Archive thing, and I am currently playing fav tunes whilst scanning all the games on Lemon to decide which forgotton classic I should play next. Anyone played Lords of Midnight or Laser Squad, I mean wow!
[edit] Yes, I also love MAME and WinUAE. I reckon I could have a full time career playing games on those emulators (except I'd earn no money). Haven't tried a spec emulator yet, used to have a 48K. Also I actually had a BBC emu for my Amiga that you could actually program assembly in, and it worked!
I went back and played a few spec games, didnt like them then very much and still dont like them now,
except maybe R-Type
That's mainly because the Spectrum was crap! C64 forever!!
*runs*
http://www.bu22.comGameBase64 v2, spread via P2P networks, contains 17,000+ C64 games and game covers, mag articles, recordings, etc spread over 3 CDs.
That's... all of them, as far as anyone can tell ;]
EDIT : For Amiga, the TOSEC database is pretty definitive.
Thanks for the link, I don't mind using the CCS53 interface though. I use a MAME front end, however.
What I really want is a full download of the actual games!
I wish I knew C better as I would do a Sid Player in BlitzMax - the music rocks and suits most home games
> That's mainly because the Spectrum was crap! C64 forever!!
* loads buckshot into blunderbuss and looks around for a someone running *
>C64 forever!!
http://www.blitzforum.de/viewtopic.php?t=14001for those who understand german ;)
I've always used Vice for C64 emulation...
www.viceteam.org
...and of course Mame and WinUAE for arcade and miggy stuff.
LineOf7s is quite right, the Spectrum was indeed a turd ;)
Why was the C64 shaped like a squashed swiss roll?
lol, that's uh dumb but funny.
So then what is a decent 48K emulator? 48K was my first computer till it broke, but sensibly I replaced it with a C64 because it was CLEARLY the better computer, except it didn't have the Renumber command in basic, bummer.
Actually things like MAME, C64 and WinUAE are great reseach tools for checking out all similar type games to one you are making for how they played, what was good and bad etc.
So then what is a decent 48K emulator?
http://www.spectaculator.comI too used FREEZE to assist in completing games.
Have you tried playing the C64 games via the TV out option?
For UK, a 50Hz TV refresh rate gives super-smooth scrolling for classics like Uridium.
Great thanx, is that the best one then? Are games easily available for it?
That's mainly because the Spectrum was crap! C64 forever!!
For once I could not have said it better myself :o)
But
VICE is so much better than CCS64...
And for the demo lovers :
Nostalgia !
Why is vice better?
Checked out your demo enjoyed it a lot, watched to end, more like an amiga demo except for the "elite" sytle font.
How did you do the timing in BlitzPLus, did you just use Flip so it's tied to the monitor refresh rate (which could be 60Hz-100Hz depending on driver) or did you fix it somehow or use delta timing etc?
I made one a while ago, it's not as good as yours but it has a plasma, copper bars and scroller + music. It's not auto playing, press space to advance to next page.
http://www.jbcomputersolutions.com/ironfist/demo01.zipEnjoy!
Why is vice better?
It not only emulates the C64 but also VIC20, C128, PET, CBMII and PLUS4. Very stable emulator packed full with options.
Try it and you'll never go back to CCS64 or any other C64 emulator.
I mentioned Vice earlier, but you weren't paying attention :)
What I really want is a full download of the actual games!
What do you think, I just posted a link to a listing of 17000 games? Look harder =]
Vanilla, OK I'm still being dumb here. I checked out you link and realised it's a database of game "details" etc but not the actually games, unless I'm being dumb here. I have various websites I can get the games from but was ideally looking for a really fat download of them all, or at least a batch download of somekind, or a site with a link to every game at least. Sorry I'f I can see what should be obvious.
VIP3R: Sorry, I saw your earlier advice but only reacted once two people said get it. Anyway the latest CCS64 doesn't play sounds properly on my new system so maybe a change is for the better, it's just I'm so used to it.
OK. I have gamebase (and the 64 database) and VICE instead. Already had the sids and auto-linked them in. Got loads of games but they aren't found as they are named incorrectly (big sigh). Realise they can be downloaded from the web page *individually* but there is no access to download a whole folder at a time. I have the filenames in the .mdb file and if the website was FTP based not HTTP based I could easily write a util to download them all one after the other (in fact a dos batch file!) but I don't know how to download from HTTP in code form. Can anyone help? Is there is blitz command, if so I can put the filname in a text file and write a blitz app to download all C64 games in the correct name format, this would be way cool.
How did you do the timing in BlitzPLus..
I didn't, the demo was all made in BB2D before BB3D was released...
Grey:
P2P is your friend. :o)
WedoeL: so you mean you just called flip then? Or it has a built in mode where it sets the framerate to 60HZ or whatever?
LineOf7s: Thanks, I just never use that filesharing stuff. I have a few clients that do an I'm forever removing viruses and spyware from their PCs. So lets say I wanted the whole c64 game collection, what P2P program would you recommend and how would I go about finding the c64 collection? I'm a real newb at this stuff, which is why I was about to write an app to download them all myself.
Yes, flip and a millisecs() timer, that's all :o)
(And sometimes double and sometimes triple buffering of coz)
OK cool I wrote an app to download the lot. I'll post it soon.

Grey, the GB64 collection (now v3 over 4 cds) is officially spread via the eDonkey2000 network. So grab eMule (make sure it doesn't connect to Kad) and do a global search for GB64.
Maybe they use BitTorrent now, too... check the forums. I havn't been there in a while.
And just don't download any obviously crap files, like 'Windows Vista full iso 5GB' =]
lolo, vista. Thanks for the advice Vanilla, but I wrote an app to collect them all in the end. Works well too.
I will try it :o)
go for it man! I wanna burn the whole lot onto DVD so if there's a nuclear war an only I and one decent PC (and the DVD) survive I can play C64 games and forrage for food/water until I die.
Works like a charm :o)
Thanks man !
Elite, Urium, Paradroid, IK+
Man, I was addicted to those when I was a teenager.
Hmmm. Memories.
Wedoe: You're welcome. When I realised the possibility of having all 17,000 C64 games in one place (even if most are rubbish), I just had to code it! It's the stamp collector in me...

Hehe, looks like those 'memories' are beginning to fade. It was called Uridium John ;)
Ha Haa.. Yep. That's what happens when you post at 1:00am in the morning.
Worked well, now I only have the four faulted games to do manually and then I'm there, yohooooo ! :o)
cool. I wonder why 4 didn't work? I figured the web page may have changed somehow. Did you use the version that showed the 4 duff ones in the listbox? What were they? I may have you see as I got no faults.
btw, watch out Wedoe you now have a MAJOR part of gaming history on your PC with almost every game concept explored (except for 3D stuff, bar Mercenary etc.) sometimes badly and sometimes awesomely plus of course all that incredible music. It may consume your life for a while, more than crack cocaine so watch out!
Alter Ego is about the only game that interested me when I explored GB64v1 =] My girlfriend on the other hand... geez... she had a huge taste in crappy old games...
obviously your girlfriend rocks.
Well, ex, now. And no. Don't get me started. =]
sorrrry
The 4 that did not work (from the 1.2 version)
c1/CLOVERHU_11393_01.zip
h/HEROESOL_03515_01.zip
p1/PEGABR-E_05611_01.zip
s3/SUPERROC_06444_01.zip
Hmm, I just pasted them into a mini verify.txt file and they worked fine. Do you want them? I can email them zipped?
Yes, please do, saves me the trouble, THX :o)
Mailaddress in profile but I can do them manually too :o)
"Wedoe" has snuck back in - alert, alert, alert.
Ban evasion detected - ban evasion detected.
'BRL, support line - "James Leonardus Boyd" speaking, how may I help you?'
'Hello, this is "puki"'
'Hi "puki" how may I serve you?'
'"Wedoe" has commited a 397-sixer ban evasion violation, double penetration'.
'Oh, I'll attend to it right away mr "puki" - sir. Oh, and may I be so bold as to point out that I wish I was as cool as you'.
'Okay, go to it "Boydy" - and smarten yourself up a bit - this is a support line, not the Samaritans'.
'Yes sir, my "puki" sir'.
Just goes to show how bored I get at bed-time.
Wedoe: I emailed them on 06/10/05 17:55 GMT.
Puki: Surely Wedoe hasn't been banned he doesn't do anything really naughty does he?
LOTFL@Puki :o) "double penetration" he he he
GA: I was for a short while, even nicer now :o)
Grey, they seems to have been lost somewhere, I checked the spamfiler, but it came out empty...
Could you send them again ? If you use the word "Blitzbasic" in the topic it will be sorted to the right folder too :o)
done.
:o)
Received...
Can I sue you for my hurting fingers now ?
(Spyhunter mostly....)
Hmm, I already tried to cover myself on that front in the other thread. It's your problem addict, I just supplied the means to collect the merchandise ;-)
