Great for import many other x exporting anims aplications into max. Useful in a team where some use max, some freebies, some other packages, etc...fbx often don't cut it...

ADDITION:
Could somebody who has 3D Studio Max 6 test this out for me? It's a .x file exported from Maya. I included the plugin in the zip. A correct import would be a boxer punching (okay, gently extending his right fist.)

can't help you, jhocking, but the max6 trial, as usual, can be found full for 30 days in several specialized 3d magazines...dunno in your country, though.
They usually are total, full, unlimited Max. Just they end up working the 30th day, so, cool for you to test this. :)
the plugins, export, etc, nothing is crippled.
