Not sure if it's of any use, but I know some people have been working on this sort of thing. I found it when I was looking for a way of using a digital camcorder + firewire as a web-cam (which it does as well. They also sell gizmos that let you pan/tilt the camera from the software / remotely. Could be handy for cheap motion control (anybody interested in film-making & special FX?)
