Crops - House Model
Miscellaneous Forums/Blitz Showcase/Crops - House Model
This is a work in progress shot of the house the player will 'live' in in Crops (my project).

Crits'd be nice, but I honestly don't care just as long as you folks think it looks OK. Still untextured, so there's not much to look at. I'm putting in all the furniture and such before I work on the textures (So I'll know what I need).
the top view looks like a cool prison - lol
what's the game going to be about Noel ?
yeah me likes it ! :)
hmm.. make sure you make the bathtub real dirty, cuz then it reminds me of silent hill & the likes :) yeah, me like :)
Hmm, big poly count, probably half of them could easily be spared. You use Maplet?
Oooooo... replies...
Sunshine Dreamer: Crops is basically (read: the design document can provide a much more thorough explanation, contact me if you'd like to read it) a Harvest Moon-styled game; a farming Sim/RPG.
AshMantle: Good idea there. Not exactly a creepy atmosphere I'm going for, but even so it sounds like it'd be fitting for the environment.
eBusiness: Not quite, video cards can handle quite high polygon counts now. Anyways, no, they cannot be spared *easily, but they could be spared. I just would rather not end up using planes for walls ;) And no, I don't use Maplet (it's just plain hideous, in my opinion- don't argue it), rather I use 3d Studio Max and Wings 3d. Great combo. :)
2,000 polygons for a house sounds small to me. Remember, we're not talking some little object which only ever takes up a tiny fraction of the screen, we're talking about the entire building the character inhabits. I'm curious at this point what the house will be used for. Will it mostly be scenery as part of a larger landscape or will you spend a lot of time hanging around inside? This makes a big difference as far as appropriate polygon count.
Thanks, Joe. The player, I assume, will be going into the house quite a bit to store items, save the game, and such. The area the house takes up is about 1/8 of the entire land the player will grow plants on (there're other buildings as well, but I've not made them yet). As far as my opinion goes, and it goes pretty far considering this is my project ;), this kind of polygon count, when I use LOD for exterior models and such, is no problem at all. If you're running a GF2 (I'm running a GF2 and GF3 in this PC, so it's easier to test) or higher, there should be nothing wrong, I think.
Thanks for the comments.
